Asparaginase

Asparaginase is a clear liquid that is injected into a vein or muscle or under the skin. It works as follows:- 

Asparaginase is a medicine that helps treat certain types of leukemia. It works by breaking down a substance called asparagine, which cancer cells need to grow. Without enough asparagine, the cancer cells can't survive.

There are three kinds of asparaginase:
- Regular asparaginase: Made from a type of bacteria
- Erwinia asparaginase: Made from a different type of bacteria
- Pegaspargase: Modified version of regular asparaginase

Each type of asparaginase works similarly to stop cancer cells from growing, but some have fewer side effects than others.

This drug may damage sperm and may harm the baby if used during pregnancy. It is best to use birth control while being treated with this drug. Tell your doctor right away if you or your partner becomes pregnant. Do not breast feed during treatment.
